A small garden makes a nice change from some of the bigger projects carried out recently. In this garden, the owners had created a border with sleepers and slate for pots as they did not want open ground to maintain. They now wanted to pave the remaining area to reduce the maintenance even further and to provide a seating area by the shed as this was the last spot for the sun in the evening.

The area next to the house had already been decked with a pergola overhead to provide some shade. Luckily, drainage had already been installed by the builders as the garden sloped gently towards the house so this was one less thing to consider.

The end result was a very simple paved garden alongside the existing slate border. A seating area has been built using sleepers and includes three small planters for decoration. The customers will purchase weatherproof cushions for these seats that can be made to measure.

This simple seating arrangement was very simple and cost effective to make and means that there is always somewhere to sit in the evening after a long day working.

The raised bed between the paving and deck provide a small area for some plants and possibly a climber to grow up onto the pergola. The support for a rotary washing line has been set into the paving to make the area functional when not in use for entertaining or relaxing.
